HARRIS COUNTY, Texas (KTRK) -- A man has confessed to murdering the woman he was dating after she threatened to end their relationship, the Harris County Sheriff's Office said.

Sheriff Ed Gonzalez confirmed the shooting happened in the 11100 block of Maritime Drive in the Sheldon area on Saturday afternoon.

The suspect, 29-year-old Cody Prince, was in a dating relationship with the victim, 41-year-old Tonya Swink.

Sgt. Jason Brown said Swink and Prince were drinking when they had an argument in which Swink threatened to end the relationship. Prince shot Swink as a result, deputies said.

Investigators said that it was the suspect's stepfather who called 911 after the shooting occurred.

Swink was pronounced dead at the scene after sustaining multiple gunshot wounds, HCSO said.

Prince was detained at the scene and confessed to the murder in an interview with HCSO homicide detectives, the sheriff's office said.

According to deputies, Prince was charged with murder and booked into the Harris County Jail.
